It's that time of year when we all are getting settled into our New Year's resolutions and prepping for our spring cleaning frenzy. While getting your home, body and life in order don't overlook your personal image. With this new year and a new you, I want you to be equipped with a positive self-image and the tools to carry you through another year or so. My boot camp will focus on classic, timeless looks and techniques to help you to be more confident, beautiful and pulled together to attract a better job, mate, friends and life experiences. On this beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving day most of us will be enjoying some yummy pumpkin pie, or in my family's case sweet potato pie. These two treats are a staple for the holidays and unfortunately outside of the holidays they aren't thought about very much. I'd like to share with you some yummy recipes for your skin that you won't need to worry about calories or wondering who will eat the leftovers because you've had more than your fill. Along with the recipes I'd like to share a few fun facts about these two fabulous foods. I hope you enjoy them. Let your skin eat up! Pumpkin
Pumpkin Scrub 1/4 cup pumpkin puree 1/4 cup Brown Sugar 2 T extra virgin coconut oil Mix all ingredients. Take a shower or LONG relaxing soak. Apply the scrub in circular motion. Rinse. Apply your fave body lotion or oil. Sweet Potato
Soothing Sweet Potato Mask 1 small sweet potato 1 T brewed hops tea (brought to room temp) Peel and cube the sweet potato and boil it for 10 minutes, drain, then smash it with a fork. In a bowl, combine the potato and the tea. Mix well.Apply a thick layer of this to your face and neck and relax for 20 minutes. If you’d like, drink the rest of the tea to receive the full effect of the hops. Rinse off with warm water, then apply your favorite toner and moisturizer. ☻☻☻☻☻☻☻☻ Keep in mind, the less time you cook your veggies the more enzymes and nutrients the retain. Photo shoots are a lot of fun and the end results can be amazing! Photos help to capture a piece of your essence that is usually only felt by another person's contact with you. You want that spark in your eyes, your confidence, your strength and curiosity for life to shine through. I have a few tips to help make your photo shoot go off without a hitch. Here they are: As soon as you book your photo shoot appointment start cleaning up your diet. Poor dietary choices show up on your skin every single time. Even if you are not prone to breakouts, a poor diet can make your skin look dehydrated, oily, swollen or dull. One week and at the very least 72hrs prior to your shoot avoid caffeine, fried foods, spicy foods, alcohol, red meat and too many sweets. Drink lots of pure water, green smoothies, carrot juice and tart cherry juice. Gently exfoliate your skin at least once a week and on the day of your shoot and moisturize daily. Avoid Alpha Hydroxy, Retin A, at-home glycolic products at least 72hrs prior and more aggressive chemical peels at least a week and a half prior. If you must spray tan, have it done at least 5 days prior to your shoot. If there were any streaks or unrealistic tones they should have faded by now. If you are doing in body shots make sure you don't have any tan lines. Keep lips hydrated with a quality lip balm daily. I love to exfoliate them with a toothbrush. Refresh your hair color a few day prior. If you don't color and you feel your hair is dull try color enhances shampoos and conditioners or a rinse or cellophane. If you need a trim get one. Avoid drastic haircuts or changes. These sudden changes can cause you to feel less confident and this will surely show up in your photos. Get your brows professionally cleaned up and maintain them daily by plucking stray hairs as needed. I like to consult my clients on their brows in advance to avoid any embarrassing issues. Be aware that facial hair and body hair will show up in photos. Consider waxing or bleaching facial hair. This should be done 1 week prior. Sometimes when you wax for the first time you will get little fine bumps on the waxed area. Don't worry, you can minimize this with a little witch hazel, ice, aloe vera and/or calendula cream. Finger nails should be neatly groomed. If you must wear polish opt for clear, nude or french manicure. Arrive with clean, product free skin and hair. The only expection to this would be if you are having your hair and makeup done prior to arriving to the shoot and you aren't getting hair or makeup done by someone for the shoot. Pack what I call a "model's bag" even if you aren't a model. From my experience modeling I made sure I was ready for almost anything. Your bag should contain the following garments (these are staples outside of your shoot wardrobe): nude undergarments, tank tops and tube tops in white, black and nude and a strapless bra. Make sure your bag has a lint brush, garment tape and a mini sewing kit. If you are doing your own hair or makeup you'll need a travel size blow dryer and diffuser, flat iron and curling iron, bobby pins, a small spay bottle with water, hair spay, gel, ponytail holders, clips and a simple head band. You will also need a power strip and a small extension cord. You don't want to assume the photographer has any of these things. If you must wear earrings make sure they are small studs. Bring multiple shirts with different necklines and at least one with a collar. Pick colors that look great on you. These clothes should fit you well and be clean and pressed. Bring a suit jacket. At least two of different colors and cuts. Have fun! This is your shoot! Seasons Change 10/14/2009
This is the perfect time of year to try out new color palettes for you makeup and change your hair color to complement Fall's fashion trends. An easy way to take your summer makeup into a fall look, but still keeping your look fresh, is by adding deeper hued eyeliners and lip colors. I always keep a beautiful jeweled-tone plum or bronze nearby for the eyes because they add drama without being overpowering. I also love a deep emerald green when I'm feeling jazzy. For fall lips I make sure I protect my delicate "muscles" by applying a conditioning lip balm daily. Drinking plenty of water helps to prevent dry, cracked lips and keeps them plump. I like to add more color to the lips with a few swipes of a deeper plum, nude, sienna, or red tone gloss. I like gloss because the shine and I can wear it sheer or full-bodied. For a little more color and dimension I'll add a lip liner to enhance the shade. To complete my look I will add a blush with a little more color than my summer look, but keeping in mind that I only want to add a pop of color I just apply a tiny bit to the apples. Hair color is an important factor too. The summer sun tends to lighten our tresses, but by adding a rinse, cellophane or color-enhancing shampoos and conditoners we can add depth without the added stress to our mane. If your were bleach blonde in the summer go for a caramel blonde for fall, or if you were light auburn go for a cognac, or if you were medium brown, go for a beautiful chocolate brown. Remember, if you are a little color shy, take your time with transitioning into a new color and start with semi-permanent first to get used to your new color. Happy fall to you! |
